Fewer murders, sexual violence reported in latest crime stats

JOHANNESBURG - There were slightly fewer murders and sexual offences in the three months between July and September.

That is according to the most recently released crime statistics.

Similarly, Police Minister Cele says police have removed 2,175 guns from the streets.

Approximately 7,000 people were killed between July and September. This is a drop of 49 victims from the previous period.

Most murders that took place in the country were through guns, says Cele.

The statistics show that over 3,000 people were shot dead.

According to Cele, the gender based pandemic persists. In addition, almost 3,00 children were killed in the three month period.
