JOHANNESBURG - Eskom, it seems, has had enough of Ekurhuleni's failure to implement blackouts at scheduled times.
The utility will now start cutting power to the city directly.
It says the metro has repeatedly failed to adhere to the code of practice.
This requires electricity distribution licence holders to reduce load during the declaration of an emergency.
The takeover followed close monitoring that found Ekurhuleni did not reduce the load as required.
Eskom says the failure to implement blackouts when required undermines the integrity and stability of the grid.
