EMPD Chief to be probed for alleged misconduct

GERMISTON - The Ekurhuleni City Manager will next week ask Ekurhuleni Metro police Department chief Isaac Mapiyeye to show cause why he should not be suspended.

While the DA and ActionSA say the allegations are serious and requiring urgent action, correct procedures must be followed.

The City Manager's office is also set to appoint an independent investigator to probe misconduct allegations against the EMPD chief.

The Gauteng Gender-based violence brigade says Mapiyeye was supposed to have long excused himself from office following the string of serious allegations.

The City Manager has to report back to council within 30 days.
