    JOHANNESBURG - Police Minister Bheki Cele says police are under attack.

    Stats SA found the scourge has risen in the first quarter.

    There are now calls to have police killings declared a treasonable offence.

    It will be discussed at the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union's National Congress.

    The 10th annual congress is taking place at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli ICC in Durban.

    "From the police indaba we took a decision to lobby the ministry to ensure that police killings become treasonous," said Popcru's Richard Mamabolo.

     

    "These are the discussions we will be taking up."
