African National Congress | Free State Premier resigns

BLOEMFONTEIN - Free State premier Sisi Ntombela has resigned.

A change in the provincial leadership structure earlier this month put her future as premier in doubt.

Mxolisi Dukwana defeated her in a contest for the position of chairperson at the recent PEC conference.

Dukwana now stands to be appointed as Ntombela's replacement.

ANC Free State spokesperson Jabu Mbalula said, "the process of appointing premiers at the beginning of the terms and in between the terms if there is a need to do so, it does not start with a resignation, it starts with an engagement first...the ANC process of determining suitability is still in motion...completion of that process."

He said, "we did indicate that Mxolisi Dukwana should take over the premiership of the Free State."
