African governments failing to invest in proper education

JOHANNESBURG - African countries are failing to sufficiently invest in adequate education. The continent's GDP of 3,8% towards education against the international 6% benchmark is concerning.

These are some of the findings during the Education International 10th Africa Regional Conference in Sandton. Education International is a global teacher and education workers labour federation with more than 32 million members.It aims to formulate strategies for equitable, inclusive and high-quality public education.

The conference commenced on 21 November 2023 to 23 November 2023. President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the attendees on the first day and emphasised the importance of the decolonisation of education.

This year's event runs under the theme “Standing Together for Resilient Education Systems in Times of Crisis”.

Director of Education International's Africa, Dennis Sinyolo says Africa needs to do better.
