Taxi violence | Rival Soweto associations face off over routes

JOHANNESBURG - Tensions are high in Soweto as two rival taxi associations face off.

The Nancefield Dube West Association and Witwatersrand African Association are fighting over routes.

On Monday morning, NANDUWE blocked roads in Soweto to prevent WATA from operating on certain routes.

The standoff follows a court ruling that granted WATA permission to operate on those routes.

The blockade saw a taxi boss and a 49-year-old woman killed after being struck by a metro police vehicle.

The vehicle was responding to the conflict between the rival groups.
