JOHANNESBURG - The ANC Youth League is calling on president Cyril Ramaphosa to urgently address the nation on food safety.
Pressure is mounting for a state of emergency to be declared following the deaths of several children from suspected food poisoning.
This after they allegedly purchased snacks from spaza shops.
The ANC Youth League is demanding that only South Africans should be allowed to own spaza shops.
Meanwhile, the Gauteng provincial government has announced an intervention plan, including the re-registration of spaza shops.
The public is being urged to remain vigilant.
