JOHANNESBURG - Mining union Amcu is demanding answers following the deaths of five miners in two separate incidents.
Amcu says three were killed after the ground fell and trapped them at Harmony Joel Mine in the Free State.
In another incident, two were killed in an explosion at the Doornkop mine on the West Rand.
Four others were injured in the blast.
The deaths come just after the announcement that there has been a decline in the number of fatalities in the sector.
Amcu is calling on the Mineral Resources Department to hold the mining companies accountable.
It's demanding an urgent investigation into the deadly incidents.
