CAPE TOWN - A Western Cape police officer appeared in the Blue Downs magistrate's court on two counts of rape.
Siyabonga Mbane (41) is accused of raping a 26-year-old detainee at the Mfuleni police station.
The case has been postponed to 9 December for a bail application which the state says it will oppose due to the nature of the alleged offence.
Mbane also faces charges of assault and domestic violence opened by his girlfriend last month.
Mbane's lawyers say they'll be arguing that the offence should be listed as a schedule five and not six as claimed by the state.
