WATCH | Nation mourns veteran playwright, actor Mbongeni Ngema

JOHANNESBURG - An Icon and leader who persistently chased his dreams is how the late Mbongeni Ngema is described by friends and colleagues.

The veteran actor and musician died in a head-on collision returning from a funeral in the Eastern Cape.

Ngema is well-known for his 1988 stage play, Sarafina! and its 1992 film adaptation.

He also became a household name with hit songs, including Stimela sa se Zola.
