WATCH | Unpacking challenges in getting renewable power onto the grid

 

CAPE TOWN - National electricity supply has been the cause of intense concern for the last 15 years, with constant rolling blackouts.

The country's electricity generation capacity has been declining – allowing renewables to make headway in the energy space.

In 2021, renewable energy contributed about 6.1%  of total electricity production in South Africa.

eNCA spoke to  Energy Expert Professor Mark Swilling of Stellenbosch University.
