JOHANNESBURG - Controversial group Operation Dudula is set to launch a pilot initiative in Naledi, Soweto, aimed at strengthening the township economy through local-owned spaza shops.
The project, named TIDE - Together in Defense of Township Economy - will offer resources and support to residents operating these small businesses.

The launch comes in the wake of 6 children having died after allegedly eating snacks from a spaza shop.
The project intends to provide safer, community-run alternatives within township retail.
The movement's leader, Zandile Dabula spoke to eNCA.
