JOHANNESBURG - Higher education minister Blade Nzimande updated the media on the progress of preparations for the 2024 academic year.

This is due to the new payment mechanism, which creates delays in the transfer of NSFAS financial allocations to various institutions.

This has left hundreds of first-year students struggling to complete registrations and pay for housing.

Asive Dlanjwa from the South African Union of Students says corruption and mismanagement hinders the proper function of NSFAS.
