JOHANNESBURG - A family in Johannesburg is demanding answers after one of its members,
who's a psychiatric patient at the Solomon Stix Morewa Memorial Hospital in Selby Park was allegedly assaulted by another patient.
The man's family was informed that he only needed stitches but X-rays revealed that some bones on his face were shattered and needed to be reconstructed.
The man also lost an eye.
In a statement, the hospital acknowledges that the patient was assaulted in his sleep with a blunt object.
It says it deeply regrets the incident and is conducting an internal investigation.
The hospital says it will remain in contact with the family to offer support during this time.
