MAPUTO, MOZAMBIQUE - The Democratic Alliance Coalition leader Vennacio Mondlane is set to return to Mozambique after fleeing the country due to safety concerns.

Mondlane has been calling for mass protests after what he called a rigged election in October last year.

The nation has been gripped by protests that have led to vandalism, looting, and reports of heavy-handed police repression.

Will the 15th usher in a negotiated settlement or will it escalate what others have called a humanitarian crisis?
