JOHANNESBURG - The Budget Justice Coalition says it's deeply concerned about looming cuts in the education sector. 

It's urging government to prioritise spending on education.

Potential budget cuts may affect the hiring of teachers.

The Basic Education Minister, Siviwe Gwarube, yesterday explained cuts are necessary because in the next two to three years provincial departments will no longer be able to fund existing posts and programmes. 

Seven provinces won't be able to finance their budgets by 2028.

However, teachers are being reassured no one will be retrenched.
