DURBAN - Five suspected Construction Mafia members appeared in court on Wednesday.
They stand accused of disrupting the construction of a bridge in uMsunduzi in KZN.
Andile Jiyane, Elias Phetha, Nhlanhla Makhathini, Sbonelo Khanyile, and Thabani Nkomo, were cuffed in August.
It was a major breakthrough for the KZN reaction task team set up to deal with the construction mafia.
Similarly, there is a week of mourning in Kwazulu Natal following the deaths of 23 people in road accidents over the weekend.
On Tuesday Police Minister, Senzo Mchunu told parliament that there's been a sharp increase in reports of protection rackets in the country.
