JOHANNESBURG - Increased transparency when it comes to food labelling could go a long way in combatting non-communicable diseases in South Africa, according to the Healthy Living Alliance.
A recent survey shows that NCDs in the country have risen over sixty percent over two decades.
These include heart disease, cancer, and diabetes.
With growing proof that ultra-processed foods high in sugar, salt and saturated fat contribute to this, the Healthy Living Alliance want a commitment from government to adopt a more aggressive stance on food labelling and sugary drinks taxation.
Interim CEO of the Healthy Living Alliance Nzama Mbalati spoke to eNCA.
