WATCH | Gauteng hospitals in intensive care unit

JOHANNESBURG - Snaking queues, dilapidated infrastructure and questionable hygiene standards are a running theme in Gauteng hospitals.

Meanwhile, civil society organisations and critics say Gauteng's Health MEC should focus on fixing public health facilities rather than deflecting criticism.

On 10 September these visuals were taken with a cellphone at Edenvale Hospital, Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital and the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital showing the dire state of affairs.

In an interview with eNCA the Gauteng Health MEC had a complete meltdown making some absurd accusations.

The DA has accused the provincial department of having a leadership crisis-starting with the MEC.

The Gauteng Health department insists maintenance and infrastructure upgrades are being prioritised but calls are growing for the department to urgently address corruption and poor service delivery.
