JOHANNESBURG - Political parties in Botswana are bracing for a fiercely contested general election in the coming months.

The opposition Umbrella for Democratic Change coalition is preparing a strong challenge against president Mokgweetsi Masisi's Botswana Democratic Party.

The opposition alliance, which consists of the Botswana National Front, Botswana People's Party and the Alliance for Progressives is aware that unity is key to it mounting a strong challenge.
