CAP TOWN - The Democratic Alliance has retained power in the Western Cape, securing over a million votes in this week’s polls.

The IEC in the province says despite challenges, it was a fairly successful election.

Officials also say there may be an opportunity for a recount following complaints lodged by various political parties.

The election body will announce the official results at 6pm on Sunday.
