CAPE TOWN - The University of Cape Town has proposed the construction of a proton therapy centre to boost the country's cancer treatment facilities.
The therapy minimises the damage to neighbouring cells typical of other radiation therapies which will benefit paediatric patients.
If given the go ahead it will be just the third such facility in the southern hemisphere.
Professor Jeannette Parkes, Head of Radiation Oncology at the University of Cape Town spoke to the eNCA.
