These are the burning questions that will once again come under scrutiny as the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial resumes on Monday after a brief recess.
The state's final witness, investigating officer Bongani Gininda, will return to the stand for cross-examination.
So far, Gininda's testimony has dismissed long-standing speculation that Twala accidentally killed Meyiwa.
He maintains intruders, allegedly sent by someone, entered the Khumalo home on that fateful night in 2014.
The trial resumes following the death of one of the defence lawyers, Thulani Mngomezulu.
