Scammers targeting the lonely and elderly

JOHANNESBURG - Momentum has noted a surge in its customers being defrauded.

It's warning them to be aware of scammers pretending to be insurance officials.

But, it says this is becoming difficult as the con artists weave themselves into the lives of the vulnerable.

It says groups like the 'Yahoo Boys' target the lonely and elderly using social media platforms.

Then, there are fraudsters trying to catch out insurers themselves.

They are using AI generated images of damage to make fraudulent claims.
