SA's Water Crisis | Hope flows into taps as Hammanskraal gets safe water

JOHANNESBURG - From crisis to clarity as Hammanskraal turns the tide in its battle for clean water. 

After the cholera outbreak that claimed 40 lives in 2023, the community now sees hope flowing through the pipes.

In October last year, Magalies Water and the City of Tshwane completed the first phase of a water treatment project, delivering 12.5 megalitres of treated water daily.

Recent updates show that water quality now meets South Africa's stringent  241 drinking water specification  standards, marking a major step forward.

To discuss the progress, challenges and what lies ahead for Hammanskraal, Dr Sean Phillips, the director-general of the Department of Water and Sanitation, spoke to eNCA.
