SA's big plan to end blackouts is flawed - Analyst

JOHANNESBURG - Mixed news coming from Eskom, the power utility has announced that we will no longer be on stage four powercuts from this afternoon, that's due to an improvement in generating capacity.

But we'll remain on stage three powercuts until late in the week.

Now one analyst is warning that South Africa’s big plan to end power cuts is seriously flawed. That’s according to Hartmut Winkler, Professor of Physics at the University of Johannesburg.

In his article published in The Conversation, Winkler says energy minister Gwede Mantashe’s proposed roadmap for the future of electricity in South Africa is disappointing.

He says the plan’s cost estimates aren’t credible and a good electricity plan is key to ensuring a country’s energy security.

Professor Hartmut Winkler had an interview with the eNCA to discuss more on his article.
