JOHANNESBURG - Government is defending portable desks issued to pupils in some parts of the country.
Around 300 have received wheelie bags that convert into a desk and chair in the Eastern Cape.
It also includes a solar light and USB charging port.
The initiative received backlash, with many saying children should not be dragging desks to school.
Is it a sustainable and effective solution to have primary school children carry their desks and chairs up and down daily?
