Call for UIF surplus to create new jobs
JOHANNESBURG - During the Covid-19 lockdown, the UIF spent almost R60-billion of its surplus fund to help the temporarily unemployed.
Now, the UIF is projected to have a surplus of over R100-billion by the end of the 2023/24 financial year but, there are no plans to utilise this surplus.
Economist Duma Gqubule says it should be used to grow public sector jobs.
