Political party funding | President may have power to set disclosure threshold

JOHANNESBURG - My Vote Counts says President Cyril Ramaphosa should not sign the Electoral Matters Amendment Bill into Law.

It's the sequel to the Electoral Amendment Bill to allow the participation of independent candidates in elections.

But, this bill seeks to amend the Political Party Funding Act.

It will give the President the power to set the upper limits of donation and the threshold for disclosures.

The advocacy group says the law is plainly unconstitutional and a grave threat to democracy.

They are threatening to take legal action, which may be an obstacle for the the 29 May polls.

We discuss this with Minhaj Jeenah from My Vote Counts.
