JOHANNESBURG - Did you know that Johannesburg has 89 libraries?
And that in the last bookshop census in 2012, the city had over a thousand bookstores?
The City of Gold is apparently filled with bookworms.
Which makes it all the more tragic that the Johannesburg City library and the 1-and-a-half-million books inside it, has been closed since May 2021.
The city says it's dealing with structural, electrical and mechanical services.
It's promising to reopen in February, but Bridge Books owner, Griffin Shea, says that's not going to happen.
He launched a petition to try and get the library reopened.
