Petition to challenge Eskom's request for 36.1% price hike

JOHANNESBURG - A petition has been started to challenge Eskom's request for a 36.1 percent hike in electricity tariffs.

It has already received over a 100, 000 signatures against the increase.

The power utility wants NERSA to grant increases for the 2026, 2027 and 2028 financial years.
But this has been met with resistance from unions, with COSATU urging the regulator to refuse the request. 

eNCA's Sindy Mabe spoke to Xanthea Limber, MMC of Energy in the Cape Town metro, which has already seen protests from Lavender Hill residents.
