DMRE experiencing huge backlog
JOHANNESBURG - Frustrations are mounting in the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy due to a backlog of more than 2,500 mining applications.
The applications were received in the 2023/2024 financial year.
This information was revealed by DMRE Minister Gwede Mantashe in parliament last year.
At the same time, there are growing calls for artisanal mining licences to be issued to South Africans living in mining communities.
The Department's Deputy Director General Tseliso Maqubela spoke with eNCA.
