JOHANNESBURG - While people were ushering in the new year, some were contemplating taking their own lives.
The Gauteng Emergency Management System’s call centre has responded to over 1,500 calls - most of which were suicide attempts on Monday night.
According to a study published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, suicide rates tend to increase over the summer holidays.
Clinical psychologist Suntosh Pillay, the chief clinical psychologist in eThekwini, and co-founder of the KwaZulu-Natal Mental Health Advocacy Group discussed this with eNCA.
