Marriage law in SA | Husbands get right to adopt wives' surnames

JOHANNESBURG - In a major blow to patriarchy, two husbands have been granted the legal right to adopt their wives' surnames.

The men took the case to the High Court after they were told the Home Affairs system did not allow it.

The court found the The Births and Registration Act was discriminatory on the grounds of gender.

That section has now been struck down.
