Marikana massacre | Over 40 miners killed in protest over wages

JOHANNESBURG - August 2024 marks 12 years since the Marikana Massacre.

It was the most lethal use of force by the police against civilians since the 1976 Soweto uprisings.

Between the 12-16 August, a total of 47 people were killed. The workers were clear about their demands for a living wage.

Now, the Socio-Economic Rights Institute is calling on the state to acknowledge the humanity of the slain miners, and what was taken form their families.

Seri executive director Nomzamo Zondo discussed this with eNCA.
