JOHANNESBURG - Two people are kidnapped for ransom every day in South Africa, according to the Institute for Security Studies (ISS).
South Africa is currently facing a booming kidnapping crisis, with 17,000 cases reported in just one year.
This marks a 260% increase over the past decade.
Last year in November, a Tshwane entrepreneur and businessman, Jerry Boshoga was abducted and is currently still being held hostage according to his family.
In part one of this special feature called Kidnapping in South Africa, producer Lee McCabe and co-producer, Sonri Naidoo, probe this crime trend and some of the most recent cases in the country.
