JOHANNESBURG - The African Helicobacter Microbiota Study Group is hosting its inaugural conference in Cape Town this month.
The group focuses on the study of the bacteria that can attack your stomach and the first part of your small intestine.
This can cause redness and swelling. Many people with the bacteria don't display symptoms.
The disease can also cause open sores called peptic ulcers in your upper digestive tract.
The conference aims to consolidate the study of Helicobacter pylori infection on the continent.
Professor Stella Smith, the Director of Research, Molecular Biology, and Biotechnology at the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research, discussed this with eNCA.
