JOHANNESBURG - After moving towards greater female representation in Parliament, South Africa seems to be taking a step back.
Women’s Rights Organisation Gender Links predicts a 3 to 5 percent drop in females in the National Assembly.
One of the primary reasons is the ANC losing 71 seats in Parliament.
The party had a quota of 50 percent women representation.
South Africa currently sits 12th in the global ranking of female political participation.
This will now likely drop to the 20th spot.
