E-tolls | The end of e-tolls for Gauteng drivers
JOHANNESBURG - The Minister of Transport, the Gauteng Premier and the Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport as well as the CEO of the SA National Roads Agency will witness the official end of e-tolls.
They have been a feature of Gauteng national highways since around 2010.
It comes after years of confusion, mixed messages and an outcry from Gauteng motorists who claimed they weren’t consulted before being forced to pay.
The system will be switched off at SANRALs Central Operations Centre in Centurion.
OUTA – then called the Opposition to Urban Tolling Alliance - was part of the initial push from civil society against e-tolling.
Wayne Duvenage from OUTA discussed this with eNCA.
