Discussion | Why is it so hard to prosecute rape cases?

JOHANNESBURG - 1,400 rape cases were dropped by the police between April 2023 and March this year, due to insufficient evidence.

This is according to recent reports by Police Minister Senzo Mchunu.

The cases involved suspects who were arrested but later released.

This points to a concerning trend in how rape cases are handled, with 1,416 calls for justice remaining unanswered.
