JOHANNESBURG - In the run up to elections, former president, Thabo Mbeki, referred to the need for a national dialogue for the people of South Africa to deal with issues and determine the future of their country.
The parties to the Government of National Unity committed themselves to a national dialogue.
The idea is that political parties, civil society, labour, business and other sectors will develop a national social compact.
In December the president said the structures and processes of South Africa’s National Dialogue will be in place by early this year.
