JOHANNESBURG - According to a recent AfroBarometer survey, South Africa has a good base upon which to build the nation.
But one weak spot is citizens’ relationship with foreign nationals, in which socioeconomic challenges may combine with unwelcoming attitudes to feed persistent tensions.
Feelings of animosity towards foreign nationals has been on the increase recently, following the unfolding stand-off at Stilfontein and the deaths of children after they ate poisoned food from spaza shops.
