Discussion | SA receives $1bn loan to improve municipal infrastructure

JOHANNESBURG - A $1bn loan has been approved for South Africa by the New Development Bank. 

This will pay for the construction of infrastructure related to water and sanitation under the Municipal Infrastructure Grant.

Thirteen percent of homes lack access to decent sanitation facilities while approximately twenty-five percent of families lack access to water from taps.

The inability of the bulk water resource infrastructure to meet the rising demand is blamed on poor maintenance.
