JOHANNESBURG - As we head towards the May 29 elections, we are likely to see a rise in misinformation and fake news.

The World Economic Forum identified deep fakes as the most serious threat to democratic processes.

In South Africa, the IEC is partnering with tech companies and watchdogs to deal with AI-generated fake news.

Zubeida Dawood is group leader of cybersecurity at the CSIR.
