JOHANNESBURG - Police Minister Senzo Mchunu closed off 2024 with a letter to national police commissioner Fannie Masemola tackling three hot-button issues: Crime Intelligence, border security and political killings.
Mchunu hit the brakes on filling Crime Intelligence vacancies pending discussions in the New Year, and called for a fresh plan to bolster security at ports of entry.
He also pulled the plug on the Political Killings Task Team, citing its lack of value.
Willem Els from the Institute for Security Studies discuss this further.
