Discussion | Mpox virus | WHO declares global emergency
JOHANNESBURG - The World Health Organization is confident mpox will not reach Covid-19 levels.
It also sees no reason for global lockdowns and border closures.
The virus is sweeping through 16 African countries, including South Africa.
The Health Department has confirmed 24 cases and three deaths.
The Africa CDC says 1,400 more cases were recorded on the continent over the past week.
It hopes to begin vaccinations in the hard-hit DRC next week.
