CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Health Department, in partnership with the DG Murray Trust, is running a maternal support programme focused on underweight and at-risk pregnant women.
The national food and nutrition security survey indicates that over a quarter of children under the age of five in the country are unable to develop properly.
Stunted children often present with learning difficulties and poor health and face economic hardships in adulthood.
David Harrison, CEO of the DG Murray Trust, says the maternal support pilot programme aims to prevent and tackle low birth weight and early warning signs of stunting.
