JOHANNESBURG - The City of Johannesburg is tightening regulations around underground water management.
It follows the illegal drilling of a borehole that damaged Gautrain tunnels. Services had to be suspended between Rosebank and Park Station for repairs.

The borehole industry says the registration process is cumbersome and causes delays. It's calling for a more streamlined process.
According to Albertus Lombard of the Borehole Water Association of Southern Africa, the organization promotes legal and sustainable drilling activities and is working with the Department of Water Affairs to expand training.
