JOHANNESBURG - A mine worker has died at Harmony Gold mine in Virginia in the Free State.

He was killed when an excavator bucket struck him. The incident follows a series of deadly incidents in recent months.

Mineworkers union, AMCU, is calling for urgent amendments to the Mine Health and Safety Act. It wants harsher penalties for mining houses that expose workers to unsafe conditions.
